The former Buena Vista estate, which was featured in the James Bond movie Casino Royale, has been meticulously transformed and brought back to its glory days, becoming the new home of John Watling’s Distillery.

John Watling’s Distillery was named after the British pirate “John Watling” who died in 1682 and took up residence on the island of San Salvador in the Bahamas.

The current production of John Watling’s line of handcrafted rums, gins, vodkas and liqueurs is handmade, bottled and labeled as it would have been at the time.

The visit is free with a guide who will finish his explanations in the “tasting” area. Take a tour of the estate and the property to discover the fascinating history of the house, then walk back to observe the rum production line from a mezzanine. Sit down at the Red Turtle Tavern with a world-class rum dum or just a good mojito.
